RAF Lymington was a former World War II airfield approximately 1 mile east of Lymington. Today Lymington Airfield is an idyllic private airstrip with a grass runway from North to South with picturesque views of the Isle of Wight.
Eighty P47D Thunderbolt fighter bombers from the 50th Fighter Group of the Ninth US Tactical Air Force were based here. Providing air support for the D-Day invasion of the 6th June 1944. The 50th Fighter Group eventually moved into Normandy, France on the 24th June.
