Introducing the New Forest Podcast
We are delighted to introduce the New Forest Podcast. A collection of audio interviews and sound recordings from in and around the New Forest. The idea being to share and document some of the unique characters that live, work or help shape the Forest.
The Sound of the Forest
We also plan to broadcast the audio experience of the Forest itself; including birdsong, and other sounds of nature.
Episode #1: Miss Dionis Macnair, MBE
Our first guest will need no introduction to many Forest folk. Dionis Macnair has dedicated her life to the New Forest.
She was the first and remains the only woman elected Verderer of the New Forest. She was the secretary of the New Forest Pony and Cattle Breeding Society for over 30 years. She is a world renowned expert, breeder and judge of the New Forest pony. This respected Burley resident and practising Commoner has even bequeathed her cottage and land to the Forest; in order to help keep the Commoning tradition alive.
Her dedication to the New Forest was acknowledged in 2010 when she was awarded an MBE for her life long service to the area.
We are truly honoured to be able to publish some audio recordings of her and transcripts. We can’t think of anyone better qualified and knowledgeable to start this new podcast series than Miss Dionis Macnair, MBE and would like to thank her for taking the time out from her busy schedule to record these interviews.

Episode 1 was recorded from her home where Miss Macnair was interviewed and recorded by Mr Dave Friskney, a New Forest pony owner, natural horsemanship practitioner and martial arts expert.
